Really wanted that pearl guy, which went for a fairly reasonable $46.00.

eBay purchase #39

purchase price: $36.52

additional comments:  Since I am now officially a tour guide at a historic Victorian home, I thought I might buy myself something of the era to celebrate.  As this official tour guide doesn’t particularly like Victorian architecture, and is not in the position to spring for a 5 story Queen Anne anyway, I decided on the above glass ring.  Unlike architectural accents, Victorians did jewelry pretty well.  If you’d like to see some of the good stuff I recommend a visit to the erie basin tumblr.  eBay can be a goldmine for the cheapies, though you don’t really know if they’re authentic.  As long as you like it, and it doesn’t make you break out in spots, who cares.  This ring does turn my middle finger colors after a few days, but after dropping 36 bucks on it I’ll deal with a bit of green-ish flesh.  It goes away after a while.

eBay purchase #36

purchase price: $19.99

additional comments:  These monk strap shoes were my last gift to myself before christmas.  They are wonderful!  Kind of narrow, but wonderful!  A wonderful alternative the black ballet flats I usually wear everyday. Those flats have holes in them and they smell kind of bad.  I wish I could find double monk straps.  Double straps wold be superb.  No matter.  eBay victory proclaimed!

eBay purchase #34

purchase price: $61.03

additional comments:  I think these shoes are the most expensive item I’ve bought on the bay.  Green shoes are the best.  I love them.

old man, look at my hat

with 6 comments

Last week, inspired by a be-hatted girl hanging around The Rolling Stones’s studio in “Sympathy for the Devil,” I bought two wide brimmed black hats on eBay.  The hats are perfect – although on me, the look is way more dirty male singer/songwriter, than mysterious groupie-ingenue.  D.M. and I spent the better part of the weekend trying to figure out exactly which dude I was dressed like.  We thought probably Neil Young, although Mary M. suggested Mick Fleetwood and I believe she may be right.

24 (or 5) and there's so much more.

keep me searching for my hat of gold.

you could be my silver hat.

Whoever it is – if I’m going to continue to rock this look, clearly I’ll need to grow a beard.

Ironic eBay Item of the Day

with one comment

I swear, I wasn’t looking for funny Sarah Palin gear on eBay just now. In fact, I wasn’t even on eBay at all. This little beaut was sent to my gmail account in a reminder email because the same person who is selling the “Brilliant Bias Cut Gored Chalayan Black Cotton Skirt” that I’ve been watching is also selling this:

"Doggone it, I'm gonna get'cha!"

“Doggone it, I’m gonna get’cha!”

Someone, please buy this “Hunter Moose 60s Mary Maxim Hand Knit Zip Front Sweater” and give it to your most unironic liberal friend. They can pile it full of buttons and wear it around Republicans who will get so angry! It will be so awesome!

And then on Nov. 4 if Obama wins, they can theatrically strip and burn, burn, burn it in the big naked bonfire victory dance party the left wing is planning once they take over America.

Of course, if Obama loses this will be the perfect thing for your friend to throw on the fire at whatever election party they’re attending and lay naked in a ball on the floor, weeping in front of CNN. Waaaaaaaaaah!

It’s not the sweater’s fault. Sometimes a sweater is just in the wrong place at the wrong time.   Generally I’m against violence of all sorts – including sartorial. But if McCain wins the election – I have to admit, I would fuck this sweater up.
