This interview with Patti Smith on npr. She’s mostly discussing her relationship with Robert Maplethorpe. I love the way she talks. Something about the accent.
just something pretty

Cause there’s been a whole lot of ugly on this blog lately. Apologies.
I want to wake up here from now on. Kate White Young – invite me over! Let me sleep in your bed! When I leave I’m taking the decorative screen with me. That screen is mine. You have been warned.

I’ve been recommending this book to everyone I know. I really cannot think of a single person who wouldn’t like it. Political machinations haven’t been this interesting since 2008, y’all. Pick it up – even if you’re normally turned off by the “historical fiction” thing. Nobody does it better than Hilary Mantel.
verb/adjective I wish would go away
“thrifted”
As in:
“Hey, I love that sweater – where’d you get it?”
“Oh, this old thing? It’s thrifted YSL.”
or
“I thrifted it at the flea market last weekend.”
Something about it just makes me go yuck. Why not just say “vintage” or “I found it in a pile of crap at Beacon’s Closet”
Style bloggers overuse it. In the same way design bloggers over use “curated.” “Thrifted” isn’t pretentious in the same way “curated” is – but it still bugs me. I don’t have a good reason why.
