a post for mary: terrariums. make or buy

with 2 comments

You know I’m gonna say make – but first, if you are a lazy bird with disposable cash, here are some terrariums for purchase:

Something about pear-shaped objects that are not, in fact, delicious pears, just plain weirds me out.  Sorry terrariums.  I don’t know what my problem is.

These puppies will run you $79 dollars at Viva Terra.  Not exactly a steal when all you’re getting is some sand, three wimpy succulents and an awkwardly-shaped glass.

Bay Area local, Kat Geiger, has been making terrariums for years and I like them because she creates interesting topographies and everything is uber-green and mossy.  Terrariums need moss!  She used to have an etsy shop but it seems to have disappeared.  You can see more of her stuff here

You can also head to etsy, where you’ll find a TON of craft-tastic terrariums, most of them fug.

I found this bad boy over at the blog Two Straight Lines.  It’s home-made!  The blogger doesn’t really step-by-step it, but here’s how I imagine you make your own:

1.  Buy some glass containers

2.  Throw some dirt in the bottom

3.  Add some plants

4.  Add some quirky shit

5.  Don’t kill.

Oh, ok.  Proper directions here.

  2. It’s easy and fun to make your own terrarium and then keep it alive and growing. Check out my blog for tips and links to how-to pages.
