Beloved commenters – behold the den of crafts that is my apartment. I stayed inside all day yesterday watching on demand television and making weird things to give to YOU. Send me your addresses! And I will send you a little something made of felt.
my email is shan.garrison@gmail.com, in case you didn’t know.

As part of a fundraiser for the Prostate Cancer and Lance Armstrong Foundations, the littleist rar-brother is sporting a mustache for the month of November. His mustache has it’s own website, where updates on the ’stache are posted. And although I am opposed to mustaches on principle, in theory and for everyday life, and although young Grant hasn’t been very good about uploading new photos of his facial hair, I encourage you to put your personal anti-mustache (and anti-Lance Armstrong) biases aside for today and donate a few dollars to support the cause. I saw the man himself on Saturday and would say his ‘stache is progressing quiet quickly from “aspiring porn” to “old prospector.” Lovely.

Some people have issues with the christmas season starting before thanksgiving. I get it, except, as long as it is after Halloween, I don’t mind so much. The christmas season is already too short! One month of christmas cheer and parties and presents and sparkles is not enough! So at rarblog we are starting a full week early. I have already bought x-mas gifts! It makes me feel so responsible to have purchased TWO gifts early. Because they are not last-minute stupid, couldn’t-think-of-anything-better-so-I-just-bought-you-this-random-bottle-opener-in-the-shape-of-a-goose type gifts. They are thoughtful. In that, I saw said gifts and thought – HEY! Those would be perfect for xxxx. And then I bought them. And I bought them for cheaper than the original price I found them at! Because if you look hard enough on the internet, you can find cheaper versions of everything.
So, to summarize, I am getting my shit together and getting the gifts in order early this year. And I am feeling very happy about it. You will be too if you comment between now and Dec. 17. If you do you will get a lovely little holiday surprise. Likely in the shape of a cat.
Don’t be a butt – let me know you care this holiday season and I will take care of Y-O-U!
since they’re giving out peace prizes

I think you all should know I am a very peaceful person to be around. I love all plant and animal life on the whole wide earth. When my boss gets angry and stressed, I remain calm and collected. I think my friends would describe me as zen-like. Not too zen-like though. I don’t do yoga. I have an edge. Not a hard edge. A soft rolling pillow-edge. My boyfriend is throwing anti-democracy, pro-military junta-themed party tonight, but I am opposed to military coups and dictators and juntas and death squads and death panels. I am not opposed to parties. I eat lots of green veggies. They are local and sustainable. I am a good person. So are you. So have a peace-full weekend. Party on.

Yesterday was sober capitalist’s birthday! If I thought he would use it, I would have bought him this hanky as a reminder to clean up after he’s done making a mess on Wall Street. Instead I had a bottle of bourbon delivered – a more useful gift, I think. And a good way to numb the pain of having to work till the wee hours on a regular basis. Poor S.C.!

n+1 issue 8 drops today! Or yesterday. Or maybe it dropped last week. I have no idea. But I do know that the Drunken Marxist has a few fine pieces appearing in this issue and that the cover is the best-looking yet. So go buy! Or better yet, subscribe. And since we are on the subject, this web-piece on summer movies is also recommended. It is free. But if you read it and enjoy it you should probably at least pick up a tote bag or something. The black one is nice.

I’m back, from the CR, beetches! Just long enough to post a couple things before I head to Bolivia on Saturday. That’s right – more travelling. Jealous? Ahhh, says, I, all of August should be vacation. I live in a Europe of the mind.
While away on my Costa Rican jaunt, I received some feedback from a reader (and relative) who thought I phoned it in with my posting in July. OK. I was busy. I plead guilty. For my sentence – I will be updating rarblog more often. Starting now. And although this same reader advised, in true capitalist fashion, “it’s not about quality, it’a about volume,” I shall try to be an exception – providing voluminous, triple A rarposts for your consumption. Except for when I’m on vacation.
in need of a warm embrace
