i couldn’t find anything amusing to post
****

*****
I drafted three different posts – but none of them are good for today. Somehow this’ll do. Garland like this would be great. If I could find some cheap party tassels, I could probably approximate something like it all by myself.
Too bad I’m lazy – remember when I was going to make a paper covered lampshade? Never happened.
getting things done week

*****
This week I am not going out, I am not spending money, I am getting things done all by myself. On the cheap and on the fly. I am finally going to mend all my holey clothes, shorten some skirts and make them like new and maybe dye some shit black. I am going to fix my curtains so they reach the floor. I am going to make construction paper book covers again. And if I have extra time, I think I could jazz up a lampshade and make it look like the one above. I bet this is made of super luxe material, not white paper pilfered from the office, but I’m thinking it would make a particularly lovely potential fire hazard. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
New things (made by me) posted daily. No random rambling stream of conscious posts. I am getting my act together. You’re welcome!
a post for mary: terrariums. make or buy
You know I’m gonna say make – but first, if you are a lazy bird with disposable cash, here are some terrariums for purchase:

meh
Something about pear-shaped objects that are not, in fact, delicious pears, just plain weirds me out. Sorry terrariums. I don’t know what my problem is.
These puppies will run you $79 dollars at Viva Terra. Not exactly a steal when all you’re getting is some sand, three wimpy succulents and an awkwardly-shaped glass.

hills and dales
Bay Area local, Kat Geiger, has been making terrariums for years and I like them because she creates interesting topographies and everything is uber-green and mossy. Terrariums need moss! She used to have an etsy shop but it seems to have disappeared. You can see more of her stuff here.
You can also head to etsy, where you’ll find a TON of craft-tastic terrariums, most of them fug.

don't forget the dino
I found this bad boy over at the blog Two Straight Lines. It’s home-made! The blogger doesn’t really step-by-step it, but here’s how I imagine you make your own:
1. Buy some glass containers
2. Throw some dirt in the bottom
3. Add some plants
4. Add some quirky shit
5. Don’t kill.
Voilà!
Oh, ok. Proper directions here.

rununc-a-duncs

little baby runcs!
My rununculas are growing like gangbusters! They’re also looking a lot like parsley. Sometimes I want to chop them up and sprinkle them on french fries. Yikes - that would be infanticide. Also, probably not very tasty.
More photos when the babies flower.

Addictive salty snacks:

s&p seeds
Toasted, Seasoned Pumpkin (and squash!) Seeds

They're toasted.
2 cups hulled pumpkin or squash seeds
1 teaspoon of kosher salt
2 tablespoons soy sauce
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
2. Combine seeds, salt and soy sauce in a large bowl. Toss to evenly coat seeds and spread them in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Place in the oven and let toast for about 12 minutes. If you remember to shake the pan a few times while toasting, good! If not, no worries. Seeds should turn a dark brown (like , say, toast) and will begin to puff up and pop. Toasted s&p seeds will keep for about two weeks. But they won’t last that long. I promise.
